MANGALORE: Dakshina Kannada district will seek issuance of red corner notices with Interpol against four underworld operatives active in the region namely Ravi Poojari, Bannaje Raja, Hemanth Poojari and Maduru Isubu.
The dossiers are in the final stages of preparation and will be sent to Corps of Detectives (CoD) Bangalore for pursuing the matter with Interpol, said Inspector general of police (Western Range) Gopal Hosur.

Speaking to TOI, Hosur said a red corner notice would ensure that a criminal who evades arrest and escapes from the country is identified and located for arrest and extradited from Interpol member countries.
A red corner notice is actually a spot out device on the immigration computer. When a passenger checks in or checks out at the international immigration counter, the moment his passport number is fed in `a red flag' appears beside it to alert the immigration officer that this person is wanted by the Interpol.
Hosur clarified that while passport details like number, date of birth will help, it is not the only criterion included in red corner notice. "We are aware that these criminals may have left the country with fake or forged passports and not be able to get accurate details of their passports. We are not solely relying on this aspect but also on other details like latest photographs etc'', he added.
"When Dawood aide Rashid Malbari was arrested in May this year we were unaware who he was. After thorough investigation, it was established that he was Malbari and after realizing that a RC notice was issued against him, we notified the Interpol through proper channel'', Hosur said indicating that it was a difficult exercise to nab criminals with sketchy information.

Regarding the dossiers, he said they were being translated into the local language, in this case Arabic, as required by the authorities where the DK police suspect these four underworld criminals are operating from. "We should be able to complete this exercise within a month, he added.
